Microsoft Dynamics POS 2009 Report Automation

Hello,

Is this the right place to post POS 2009 questions?

Is there a POS forum?

I've recently purchased MS Dynamics POS 2009 for a store of mine and I am having trouble setting up automated report generation.

I'm using SQL Server Express 2008 R2 and MS Dynamics POS 2009 R2

I've noticed that POS 2009 uses rdl files to generate their reports.  It's not clear to me how it is setup to do this. Is there a way to hook into reporting services to automate the reports?  Or are the reports just generated directly in POS using report viewer or something?

Basically, I really like the reports that can be generated with POS 2009, but they would be much more useful to me if I could generate them automatically without any user action.  Is anyone else doing anything similar?

Also, I've noticed that there is an SDK for POS 2009.  How can one get a hold of that?  Do I need to become a partner?  I'm a software developer by trade and would like to customize POS, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding documentation and an SDK.

Regards,

Evan

    1) This is the forum for the POS questions also
    2) There isn't a seperate forum.

    3) The rdl files that you are speaking of is the report definition.  So you are on the right track.  The POS generates the report each time the Internal Report Viewer is launched or refreshed.  There isn't a hook that I know of to automate this reprot generation.  If you know enough about sql report viewer and can code your own then maybe you will be able to accomplish this.

    4) The SDK is for partners only.  I don't know if that will stay that way but any partner that makes this information public is liable to lose their partnership due to the agreements signed by the partners.

If I were you I would try to use a program like AutoHotKey or AutoIT to automate your reports.  These will be able to capture keystrokes and mouse clicks and repeat them.  You can then setup a Windows Scheduled Task to run this script and this should be able to automate your reports.  One word of advise is to TEST, TEST, TEST.

    Thanks
