How can I change a Location type and asset type

I am an experienced asset management consultant and worked on different asset management products. Our organisation is currently implementing D365 F&O, and we are migrating from our asset management product to D365. I am surprised (and disappointed) that I am unable to change the Location type and asset type after the record is saved.

For example: We have a location that is currently used as a storage room but the management decided to lease out that room so it is now retail site. Eventually we would like to change the Location category as "Retail". We do not have an option to change the Location category as "Retail". The work around is change the location state to "DECOMMISSION" and create a new location with the required category. The disadvantage of this work around is that we lost the history.

The same with the asset as our assets expand we would like to reclassify our asset types and this is a usual in every organisation.

I have the same question (0)

You are correct, asset and location types cannot be changed via UI once the record is saved. Try renaming functional location instead or consider enhancement.

Yes, this is Functional Location type.
