customerid field in Case entity

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Referring to the Case entity, there's a customerid field.

Is this customerid similar to that of Contact entity's contactid?

Who create this customerid in the Case?

Please advise, I am kind of confuse that does every case being created has a customerid?

Thanks guys.

    Hi Kentana ,

Yes it creates the contact with the incoming email id (In Case of new) and tags that Contact to a Case.

In case of Existing Email  - it searches and tags that contact with the created case.

I believe if it finds the contact or account with the same email address, it would attach it with the case, if not, it will create new.

Just a quick check, for "email to case" creation. The case will be auto created when there's incoming email to a Queue. The customerid will be created as well?

    Hi Kentan,

New Data Type “Customer” has been introduced in CRM Online 2016 Update and can create in Custom Entity as well.

Customer Data Type is a combination of both Contact and Account Entities, one can choose either Contact or Account record.

    Hi Kentan,

Customerid is the customer for whom the case is being created. Customerid can be either Contact or Account.

You can use existing Account/Contact record in customerid or you can also create a new contact using quick create form.

    Thanks,

    PS

In CRM a customer could be either an account or a contact. So customer field displays both accounts and contacts and this is mandatory for every case.
