How to carry over 'Lead Source' info from a Lead when qualifying as an Account

First post on these forums so be gentle...  I've also had a look for answers on this but I'm still having problems.

Basically I've populated fields called 'Lead Source' in the Lead entity and the Account entity to contain exactly the same options i.e. Web, Email, Word of Mouth etc. and I think I need to do some mapping in order that when a Lead is qualified as an Account the Lead Source value is copied over into the Account record.  So far my efforts have been hit and miss, with the best result being that the field was populated, but with the wrong value, although usually I get nothing.  I'm sure this is something the system can do and that I'm probably just doing it wrong.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi Nige,

Welcome!  Glad you are using the community.  You can modify the mappings from Lead to Account by going to the Lead entity in the Customizations area.  On the left, select the 1:N relationships.  The look for the Lead Account relationship called Originating Lead.  If you open this relationship, here is where you modify the mappings.

    Hope this helps!!

Thanks for your response Gretchen!  This is where I've been living for the last few hours... It looks like it should be simple but it's just not working!?

The mapping icon has a little yellow 'cog' on it where all the others don't?  What's the significance of this please?

I'm putting a tick in the box, then  Save & Close, then Publish Customisations.  Is this correct?

    Thanks again

    Hi Nige,

I'm not sure where you are in the application--are you in this screen pictured below?

    Hi Nige,

What do you mean by "I'm putting a tick in the box, then  Save & Close, then Publish Customisations."  Can you show a screenshot of what you are doing?  There should be no checkbox in this process.  Just create the mapping between the two option sets, and then publish.

    Thanks!

    Hi Gretchen,

As per the screen below, it appears that the mapping is in place already, and I shouldn't have to do anything else?

Would you say that, on appearances at least, this is right?

    Thanks

    Nige

    Hi

I think the problem is with the optionset's item value.

Make a note of  the Lead Source optionset : i.e., item name and value.

Create the same optionset item name and values in the account.

    This sholud solve your problem.

    Hi Nige,

No, I do not see the mapping on that screen.  You will need to click New on the toolbar to create a new mapping and select the Lead Source from the Lead and the new Lead Source you created on the Account.

I should mention that normally I would not suggest creating two option sets and mapping them.  Rather, the best solution is to create a Global Option Set and put it on both the Lead and the Account.  However, the out-of-the-box Lead Source field is tied to some out-of-the-box such as the Lead Source effectiveness.  So, if you plan to use that, then continue doing what you are doing.

Thanks both for your helpful suggestions.  There are two things happening here.  Firstly the Source field on the Account for appears to be a custom field!?  I've created a new mapping for that.  Secondly the values in each optionset are different!  I corrected that and hey presto it all works.

I get the impression that there are other strange things going on with this installation, but fundamentally both your answers were correct.

    Thanks again

    Nige
