ADX v7 - Multiple Portals - Single instance of CRM - users able to log into all portals

Hi All,

I am a relative new learner when it comes to CRM Portals (ADX) and I am only starting to get deep into the nuts and bolts of things so bare with me if I am not fully up to speed with the lingo.

We have a development crm environment to which we have hooked up 3 different portals for different customer types. Now in my travels I have identified that when using invitations for users to gain access to a portal, once redeemed that they can use the credentials to access any of the 3 portals we have deployed.

Things I have tried:

  • ensured that the relevant website was set at the point of invitation creation
  • disabled open auth
  • made sure that the website bindings were matching IIS names etc
  • tried changing cookie names via site settings (Authentication/ApplicationCookie/CookieName)
  • checked website access rules

Nothing I have tried has allowed me to lock down a user to a particular portal. I would really appreciate if somebody could point me in the direction I need to go to resolve this issue.

Many thanks,

David

    Hi David,

By default users will be able to login to all portals - there is no simple way to restrict that access.  Am I correct in assuming that you're using the Microsoft hosted version (v8/9)?

I'd recommend considering having web roles setup for each portal, and then using those web roles to secure all the content on a particular portal.

The users will still be able to login, but they won't have access to anything.

Another option would be to write some liquid code that is included in the header/footer that checks if the users is on the correct portal, and if not, takes them to a page explaining they don't have access.

    Many thanks Nicholas,

That was the one answer I was hoping not to hear, but it answers my question perfectly. We are actually using an on premise deployment using v7 at the moment.

I was toying with the idea of using liquid to do exactly what you mentioned as a stop-gap fix and now will have to implement this. We are using webroles and as such most of the content is secured. It was wishful thinking and assumption on my side that if an invitation was created and linked to a particular website/portal that the user would not be able to even log into the other portals.

Thanks again and I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

    Have a great week.

    David
