!inherited roles cannot be modified

Hello - I want to add a permission for a role through the CRM Admin page.

I noticed an information bar at the top of the page that says "!Inherited roles cannot be updated or modified."

So to update the role permissions I'll need to go to the parent level so the role permissions propogate to the child.

What "parent" does the reference to "inherited roles" refer to? How can I identify the parent through the UI?

If its an inherited role that means it exists in a child business unit and the parent business unit. So to change it you have to access the security role from the parent business unit then the updates will be passed down to the child.

This can also happen if you try to modify the security privileges through a team instead of on the security role itself

Security roles are associated with business unit. You have to change the inherited business rule at the parent level. On the child business unit record form the parent unit would be specified in the field "Parent Business"

I am running into the same issue and I am confused. Security roles are created independently aren't they, and are assigned to different users and teams.... So how do they inherit something?

Security roles are created at the parent business unit level. We have a hierarchy if business units. The role from the parent will be applied to all child business units as an inherited role. If you need to change the role you do that on the parent.

Hi Andrew,

Just click on "Business Unit" field on security role form.

It will open the "Business Unit" form and you can see the "Parent Business Unit" there.

To edit the Security Role, please select the parent business unit in Security Roles listing page( in this case XYZ) and it will become editable in Security Role form.

Thank you, this helped me find the Parent BU and modify the Role at the parent level. Once i found which BU was right at the top of the Hierarchy i was able to make the change needed.
