Sales Quantity Shortage Options - Backorder options are not visible

Hello,

I recently installed the manufacturing module in our test environment and have performed the related setup tasks. So, as a test I would like to generate a manufacturing order from a sales order. My understanding is that to do so I first need to create a back order. The sales order in question has one item on it and the order quantity exceeds the available quantity. The “allow back orders” flag has been selected for the item on the item master. On the customer master record (options) the “order fulfillment shortage default” has been set to “Back Order Remaining”. The “quantity shortage” option on the sales order processing setup was changed from “Override Shortage” to “Backorder Balance”. With these setup changes in place I created the aforementioned sales order. When I tabbed off the detail line for the item in question the Sales Quantity Shortage Options window opened, but the “Back Order All” and “Back Order Balance” options were not part of the quantity shortage options list. The item is of type sales inventory and we use the customer for test orders all the time. Are there other setup tasks that we need to perform to generate the back order or what else am I missing?

Thank you

    1. Open Sales Order processing Setup window(Tools-->Setup-->Sales-->Sales Order Processing).

    2. Click "Sales Document Setup" button and choose order.

    3. In Sales Order Setup widow, choose your order id and mark the option "Transfer Order to Back Order"  then choose back order id in "Use Back Order ID" field.

    4. Click Save.

    5. Then create a new order in sales transaction entry window. In Quantity Shortage window you can see all the options.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Hi Larry,

Go to the Sales Order Processing Setup Options window (MDGP | Tools | Setup | Sales | Sales Order Processing - Options button) and make sure that the "Override Quantity Shortages" option is marked.

I need to make on correction to the previous post.  The The “quantity shortage” option on the sales order processing setup was changed from “Sell Balance” to “Backorder Balance”.
