Is there something special about the solution ZIP files?

I have been asked to import a solution.zip file to about 20 CRM servers. One of the steps is to unzip the file, edit the customizations.xml and re-zip the file before importing it. However, the new zip file does not want to play nice. Is there something different or special about the Zip file? I know there are many ways to zip.

Can you share what changes you have made to customizations.xml ?

this file is a bit sensitive. it could be the XML that you changed could have one tag that is not correct. when you import it back, CRM should validate it. not allways the error message is very clear but it should point you to the right direction

watch out also for special chars when editing customizations.xml .

do you get a red cross when you import back. it should also prompt you to download an error log

When you unzip and zip customization  again..solution.xml,customization.xml files should be in first level..

I mean you hqve solution say test.zip..when you unzip it will create folder called  test..now to zip again..you should go in test folder and zip all files not just test folder..

Otherwise crm will not recognize what is in the file..

If you getting any error while importing then check the error log file.

easy way to check error log file is open errorlog file in xml..

    Hope this will help..

Yes I get a red x. I downloaded the log and it is complaining about office:spreadsheet which is not what I was editing. I am replacing a URL to point to the server I am working on. It's part of a Plugin we use.

to find the real error message you better open the "error log" using excel

check this out: this guy opened the log with notepad and it's really hard to spot the error message

    mscrmworkflowutilities.codeplex.com/.../405835

there are several  nodes like "Cell ss:StyleID="s137" name="ErrorCode">"

    his real message was here:

    <Data ss:Type="String">Action failed for assembly 'CRM2011WorkflowUtilities, Version=2.0.1.2, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=56e578f179199f26': Assembly must be registered in isolation.</Data>

if you open (the error log, not the customization.xml) with excel, you should find the error message without all this trouble

Now, when you edit the customizations.xml, you need to be careful on how you change it.

it can break if a tag is not properly closed or if you accidently add a special char.

It can also break if you customize it to access a dependency that is not  on the system.

I am using PSCX Expand-Archive and I found I was not writing the zip file back correctly.

Here is the right syntax to put the zip file back together:

    gci -recurse "c:\temp\crm" | write-zip -OutputPath c:\temp\crm\Myzip.zip -IncludeEmptyDirectories -EntryPathRoot "c:\temp\crm"

I want to map CRM Accounts to NAV Customer, But facing one issue.

Add/Delete Customers must have a value in User Setup: User ID=EBARA\CRMNAVCONNECTOR. It cannot be zero or empty.

Can any one help me please. It is working fine from Nav Customer to CRM account, but issue when sync CRM Accounts to NAV Customer.
