Hello. To be honest, I don't know where to ask this question, but I hope you can help me.
I'm doing a research paper for university on "Microsoft's Monopoly Activities." There are many articles that describe Microsoft as a monopoly, but some also refute this claim.
I have an important question: Is Microsoft considered a monopoly? I'm interested in your opinion, as it will be useful for my research paper. Thank you.
( Sorry for any errors in the text, as I used a translator )

    Hi,

Monopoly means that a company is solely active on a market. Considering the definition of a monopoly, then the answer is "No". Microsoft is not a monopoly as there are competitors on operating software, hardware, cloud computing, software solutions, etcetera.

Monopoly i might not agreement apart from Office Suite and Desktop OS market where Microsoft still holds maximum share of the market around 70% percent , apart from that sector competition is much stronger. in productivity suites, Google Workspace leads with 44–50%, while Microsoft 365 holds 30–45% depending on region. In cloud infrastructure, Microsoft Azure has 20%, trailing AWS at 30%, and ahead of Google Cloud at 13%.  It is often accused of being a monopoly because of its historical dominance in desktop operating systems and bundling practices that limited competition, such as integrating Internet Explorer with Windows. However, now it faces strong competition in key markets, and the rise of mobile platforms and web-based apps has reduced dependency on Windows, making it less of a monopoly today. Think about products for your daily use today where Microsoft works, apart from laptop with Windows what would you have a first preference to buy if your all choices landed for Microsoft then you can say its Monopoly , even there I will assure you that if you would have budget you will go for apple product today.
Microsoft is still a major player  , and driving market leadership through AI integration across its ecosystem, embedding Copilot in Office, Dynamics, and Azure to boost productivity. Its aggressive cloud expansion and partnerships position Azure as a key player against AWS and Google Cloud.  Many more thing to discuss but I will conclude my thoughts here.
