My company has been using the Dynamics 365 Sales app as its CRM. I have been tasked with looking into the possibility of swapping the database provider from the built-in default database (which I understand is Azure/Dataverse).
The idea is to save money by using a different cloud-based server to host our database records, but still connected through the same cloud-based Dynamics 365 Sales app.
I have done extensive searching online, but I can't seem to find a way to do this. We initially thought there may be a way to point Dynamics 365 to an external hosting provider for the database (perhaps by by entering connection string information to an AWS-hosted database, for example), but I have found no information about this.
My lack of success finding information leads me to believe that the database is basically built-in to the Dynamics 365 cloud service, and cannot be swapped out.
Can someone confirm if this is the case?
Thanks!
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
Dynamics 365 for Sales Online is a SAAS-based service and you cannot swap its database.
You cannot even directly access the database.
To summarize, Yes, you can swap the DB for the online version (you cannot bring your own database server).
