Contract begin and end dates

Does anyone know how these dates are updated. I presumed they were driven from the projects transaction dates but the dates associated with the respective projects are different. Any way to get these synchronized?

    Nice Catch Pete.

I have tested some scenarios and conclude my results that your assumptions are true. If there are no transactions in Project then Project Start/ End dates are fine as per my chart. But once transactions being executed under project, then project Begin and End dates calculated from actual transaction activity.

Even if there is contract where we have multiple projects, then contract Begin Date would be minimum Begin date of all projects, respectively Contract End Date would be maximum End date of all projects.

I would want to know what is your basic requirement from Begin and End Dates. Do you need to report them or else.

Thank you for the reply, Irfan.

Maybe you can shed some light on the following:

I have a contract that shows a begin and end date 05/01/14. There are 2 projects assigned to this contract. One is a fixed fee which shows a begin date  and end date of 05/05/14. A fee was billed out on this date. The other is a T&M which shows a begin date of 05/05/14 and end date of 05/04/14. This project's budget line (only one) shows a baseline begin date of 05/05/14 and an end date of 05/04/14. There is one transaction entered against this budget line item and has transaction date of 05/01/14.

I always thought the begin and dates were based off dates of actual transaction activity dates but according to your reply, they are not as it relates to projects. So do you know how the projects would have different begin and end dates from the contract since the contract's begin and end dates appear to correspond to the transaction date for just the T&M project.

    Thanks.

RE: Contract begin and end dates

    Hi Pete,

Below is a chart where you can get project begin and end dates.

Project Type Project Start Date Project End Date
Fixed Price Date when initially project entered in system. Date calculate from Budget End Date, from Budget Maintenance Window
Time and Material Begin Date of Project Fee, where Fee Type is Service End Date of Project Fee, where Fee Type is Service

Hope it shall serve the purpose.
