Importing CSV File Fails

(0) ShareShare

Hi,

I am importing CSV files for activities.

The file is a CSV file, size is about 4MB, only 4 fields...
One of the fileds was quite long but i managed to trim it only to the first 250 chars....

Every time I simply try to upload it in CRM it fails. A Wonderful super-generic "ERROR" with no code and explanation....

If I remove that filed it gets uploaded...so it must be something in that fields...
Any idea? is there some kind of limit for the CSV files we import?

I would try to isolate and try a few records first, does that work?

Forgot to say that the file I need to import contains about 20.000 rows

Correct there is a limit to the CSV import.  Split it into smaller files.

    Antonio,

    Here is the limitation

    zip file:- 32 MB

each file in zip: 8 MB.

You CAN import .zip, .csv, .txt, and even .zip with multiple csv files in it. The 8 MB limit applies to each individual file.

    Thanks

which is the limit in the CSV inmport? I've read that the limit is 8MB and I have already imported successfully CSV files up to nearly 70.000 records...

    this file:

    500 records OK

    1000 records Fails

Just to remeber, it simply fails to upload the file, prior to selecting row and field delimiter and mapping fields...

Antonio, You are right, the limit is 8MB for CSV Files.

Just had a chance of reading this. I hope it will be of some help.

it might be one of that field data is not fitting as per field length even though you trimed it..

In term of limitation.. you can load upto 8MB csv file and if you are loading zip file then upto 32 MB you can load.

    check for file size limitation

file size is OK (less than 4 MB)

    20.000 rows

just 4 fields, one of them is quite long (up to 600 chars)

i supect that this fileld (a description field) has some NewLine chars that messes up the CSV structure....

    Yes.. that might possible,

if you have single Quotation (') or Double Quotation(") in description field then it might be CRM will consider that as new column or if newline character then new row with less columns and it might fail to import.

in this case you can create your CSV file with different delimiters ( like :  [Colon]   or ; [Semicolon]  or \t [tab character] etc) and when importing you can specify column separated delimiters

    Hope this will help..

I would check for double quotes and commas in the description field if the csv does not double quote each field.
