Import Related Account records

Hi,

I am trying to find a way of importing accounts from my legacy data and set them up as parent and child accounts.

I have a law firm made up of 30 accounts with the same name - Linklaters LLP

The London office is the Parent account and all other offices are child accounts.

Every example that I have come across use the account name, which is useless when it comes to this scenario.

Any idea how this can be done?

if you already created parent account in crm then export account template and add parent account field with "Linklaters LLP" and fill all details in excel and re import back to crm

    hope this helps,

Please mark verified if it suits your query

    Regards,

    Nithin

Isn't there a way to import parent and child accounts at the same time? Normally you wouldn't use the name of an account as the identifier in a relational database.  You would expect it to be something like an AccountID and a ParentAccountID in order to link accounts together.

I find the lack of any real life examples of how to import accounts and contacts to be lacking to say the least :-(

Sadly, the only way to import accounts with a relationship to non-existing accounts is via a custom c# application using the Dynamics CRM API. This way you can create the accounts, with a relationship, at the same time.

Using the standard excel/csv import, you must first import the parent account.

Hi Monty, The normal Practice is to have a staged order for your data migration, where you import the Primary Objects before the dependants and data migration tools such as Scribe or Kingswaysoft will help you filter and manage the order of your data migrations and include queries to match dependencies and loookup queries during the import steps
