Edit in Excel Function

Good morning everyone,

I have a customer that is working with BC Cloud (US Version) and has some trouble using the Edit in Excel tool.

What kind of transactions allows this tool? According to our testing, it only allows to modify and delete records.

Does anyone know if it allows to create records too?

Thank you!

Regards!

I have the same question (0)

It would not surprise me that this feature is not designed for adding records. What happens when you try to add? You do have the option to copy/paste from Excel into certain pages. There is also the configuration package as an option for adding records.

    Hi

I say depends on which records you mean.

In pages such as Sales Line or PO Line you can create a new record when you use "edit in excel". But you need to make sure to populate all required data correctly (for instance Lin No in SO)

But records in pages such as Item is tricky. For example in Item (or customer/vendor) you need to allow for Manual No Series creating. Otherwise it does not let you to create new record. In addition, you need to populate all required fields as well.

Based on my experience in pages that has a relationship with No Series you need to turn on Manual No Series in order to create a new record.

    I hope this help.

Hi Mahgah, thank you for your answer. In this case, I'm trying to edit in excel using the General Journal page. It allows me to modify and delele existing records but I'm having trouble when trying to insert new lines.

    Hi Valeria

Can you please try the following method?

    Thanks

Hi Ew, thank you for your answer. When I modify an existing record and press 'Publish', it works fine. It happens the same way when I delete a record and publish.

But, when I add a new line and Publish, It is not possible. I'm working with the General Journal Page.

I know I can use configuration package or even the copy/paste tool (currently as a workaround, they are using that functionality). But my client is used to this tool. I would like to know if this issue is related to BC or to my client's BC instance.

If you could help me, I would appreciate it.

    Thank you!

Hi MahGah, Thank you! I already reviewed that webpage. Actually, I have no trouble when deleting or modifying existing records. The issue shows up only when publishing new lines.

    Hi Valeria

Can you please share screenshot of the error here? That could help to determine the issue.

    Thank you

I have tried to replicate the error in our environment (by not populating some fields or putting wrong info) but had no success. I hope other members can provide some answer.

I copied below the fields that I needed to populate in order to successfully publish the journal without any error. Please note that it is not require to populate  Line No. it works better when you leave it blank. I hope this can help.

We have been using the Edit in Excel feature for numerous types of transactions:

Sales invoice headers / Sales invoice lines

Purchase order / purchase invoices / purchase invoice lines

    journal entries (General Journals)

Don't enter a line number into any of them, just enter the info and publish (make sure the table encapsulates the info that you are publishing. Any errors will be noted and just click on the "show" errors and it will tell you what you need to know.
