Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding dimension combination, is it possible for me to set it up so if dimension A = contract work then dimension B cannot be Null / Blank?

I don't mind any other method as well. I was thinking of using AL, or even if possible dimension central have white list system?

Thanks,
I have the same question (0)

    Hi

Good question. Business Central doesn’t have a built-in way to enforce “if Dimension A = X, then Dimension B must not be blank” out of the box but you can definitely handle this with a bit of AL customization

    Here’s what you can try
    • Use a validation trigger in AL (like OnValidate or OnBeforePost) to check if Dimension A has a specific value, and then throw an error if Dimension B is blank
    • You can also hook into the Codeunit 408 DimensionManagement to work with dimension sets and validate combinations before posting
    • If you want something more configurable, you could build a small setup table that defines required combinations, then check against that during posting
    • The Dimension Combinations feature in BC lets you block or limit combinations globally, but it doesn’t enforce “required if” logic like you’re describing
    • There’s a good overview of how Dimension Combinations work here Trunorth Dynamics – Dimension Combinations in Business Central

If this helped, feel free to mark it as the suggested or verified answer

    Cheers

As far as I know, this can only be done by customization, or you can try the following method in combination with Dimension combination.

    Hello,

If Dimension Combination functionality does not helpful so, you can go with AL Customization to fulfill your requirement.

    Hello,

The combination of dimensions could not help for such requirement. It would be best to perform a customization in order to achieve your requirement.

    I hope I can help.

    Regards,

    Hi
You could extend the functionality of combination of dimensions and add the logic for your requirement.
