Best way to handle Competitor Contact

(1) ShareShare

I have the requirement of adding a "contact" to the competitor form.

My initial thoughts were to create a relationship, or flag a contact as competitor, or create a new field for just competitor contacts.

Adding a contact lookup field on the competitor form does not produce the results I'm looking for as there is not relationship there, just a form entry.  Adding a competitor lookup field on the contact form is closer, but I run into problems having more than one contact per competitor.  I could utilize Connections but that seems sometimes difficult for non-technical staff to comprehend and/or report on.

Any advice?

Thanks

    Hi Ummacrm,

You could add a sub-grid to the form related to the contact entity, then you could have more than one contact per competitor displayed on the form.

I'm going to mark you as the best answer Sean.  Thanks for taking the time!

The sub-grid was the original idea and your reply made me explore it just a bit more.  To do it correctly I made a new lookup field on the contact form called Competitor Account (competitor lookup).  Created a relationship between contact and competitor, and added your sub-grid to the competitor form.  This satisfies all requirements but it's sloppy.

Some javascript to handle ensuring a contact doesn't get tagged to an account and a competitor should help maintain data integrity.

    Thanks again.  Peace.

    Hi Ummacrm,

Maybe you can do it with javascript, but another solution would be to create a new entity called competitor contacts. That way, you make sure the 2 don't get mixed up, the solution is scalable and you are sure that it will keep on working after updates.

    Just a thought.

    Kind regards,

    Robin
