Assigning a site to all items

Hi again,

I've got a barcode system that can transfer items from site to site, but I get error messages when trying to transfer to a site that is not assigned to that item.

I know that I can use the Item Site Assignments window to assign all items to my different sites, but my question is: Does anyone know of the impact this will have on my system? I've got over 15 000 items and 5 different sites (5 X 15 000 = 75 000 item/site assignment combinations)

Other than taking a little database space, I have no clue if this action will slow down my other processes or multiply data entry time due to added site selections when users work on a daily bases.

Thanks,

Jason

    Jason,

We are using 10 sites in GP and 18,000 Items, Other than the extra space in the IV00102 Table you would not have Performance drop.

I have created Macro for Adding Item numbers in Bulk, one of the steps is to assign the item to all the sites.

Almost allways, If I don't, I will have to do it when I do a Transfer to another Site.

For Data Entry you should set the default Site for the Items In the Item Quantities Window.

    Jason,

Do you use Material Requirements Planning module?  Since this considers inventory on an item-site basis, I've seen unnecessary assignments create performance issues with MRP regeneration.

    David,

An excellent point. We do use MRP and this will certainly have an impact of performance. In this case, I will have to review the strategy and probably we will decide on item classes or something around those lines.

    Thanks again for the input,

    Jason
