Update unit cost after the production order finished

Hi,

I am trying to create Value Entries and Capacity Ledger Entries after the Production Order has been finished, in order to load specific costs onto that finished Production Order, such as administration expenses, labour expenses, and electricity bills.

I have developed a customization solution and successfully created the Value Entries and Capacity Ledger Entries, but the Item Unit Cost is not being updated.

Is there any idea or solution for this?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

It is not suggested to add value entries through code, as it may impact standard costing logic and your future cost applications may misbehave.
It may result in scarping the entire database at the end, due to any small bug.

However, if you still want to do it, try running Adjust Item Cost entries batch, it will update the unit cost. Also on the Item card there is a Boolean, cost is adjusted, it needs to be false to run this report. So if it is true, make it false.

No need for customization.  You can re-open the Finished Production Order, post your additional costs to the Production Order, then Finish the Production Order again.  Just be aware, you can only re-open a Finished Production Order one time.  So make sure you get all the missed entries the second time around.

This is why a good Functional Consultant is needed in tandem with a Developer. In BC, now a Finished Production Order can be reopened and these late Capacity Entries can created with the Capacity Journal. This would be recommended rather than a customization that alters the ledger and Value Entries. The ledgers are the core of NAV/BC, and the Value Entries are critical for costing integrity. Please be cautious.

    Hello,

Creating Value Entries and Capacity Ledger Entries alone will not update the Item Unit Cost, because Business Central only recalculates and updates the Unit Cost during the Adjust Cost – Item Entries process, which forwards actual production costs to the item and updates its valuation; therefore, after adding your custom cost entries to a finished production order, you must run Adjust Cost – Item Entries (or enable Automatic Cost Adjustment) and ensure your entries are properly linked to the related item ledger and production order so they are included in the cost adjustment, otherwise the Unit Cost will remain unchanged.

When you bypass the BC Posting routines you could be missing related table updates. There some times are Register table updates that might be being skipped and or updates that flow back into the related lines. Try running Adjust Cost Item Entries and see if that does the trick.
