Help! CRM 4.0 Dynamics workgroup install

(0) ShareShare

Hi All

I've recently installed SBS 2008 (Standard) onto a new server at work.  I am currently trying to install MS CRM 4.0 Dynamics on however I'm having trouble installing it as I keep getting MS SQL Server errors such as:

"Setup was unable to verify that SQL Server agent (SqlAgent$SBSMONITORING) was running"

 and

"This version of SQL Server is not supported"

I've tried installing SP2 for MS SQL Server 2005 but the service pack fails.  I have even tried to fully re-install MS SQL Server 2005.

 Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.  I am very new to SBS 2008 and CRM installations.  I've only installed client OS before.

    HI Andrew,

Verify that you do have sql server agent installed and the service is running.  Also - turn off the windows firewall during installation.

    Hi

I have the sql server agent installed and it is running.  I've turned off the windows file during installation and am still getting the same.

When I attempt to install SP2 for MS SQL Server 2005 I get the following failed to install:

     - SQL Server Native client

    - SQLXML4

    - Backward compatibility

    - Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer

Hi, by default SBSMONITORING is running on windows internal database, you should use another sql instance (default or named).
SBS Standard doesn't include SQL server, so you need additional licence.
    Supported SQL editions:
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Standard Edition with SP2
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Enterprise Edition with SP2
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Developer Edition with SP2
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Workgroup Edition with SP2
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Standard Edition, x64 with SP2
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Enterprise Edition, x64 with SP2
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Developer Edition, x64 with SP2
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Standard Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Enterprise Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Standard Edition, x64
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Enterprise Edition, x64

    Hi

I have just installed MS SQL Server 2008 (Standard) and I get the same error.  Can you please explain further regarding the first part of your reply?

"by default SBSMONITORING is running on windows internal database, you should use another sql instance (default or named)."

What do I need to do to use another SQL instance?

     Thank you in advance.

In the crm installation wizard, you need to specify the name of the computer running sql server. You will have a list with available sql server instances, choose the one that you already installed ex.
    HOST
    HOST\SBSMONITORING
    HOST\SQLEXPRESS
    HOST\OTHER_INSTANCE_NAME

    Hi All

I decided to remove all of the MS SQL Server 2005 stuff and put on a brand new install of SQL Server 2008 which seems to have worked up until reporting services which is good.

Any idea how to get past this?

What do I need to check / look for? setup first even?

    Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services

    - Setup failed to validate specified Reporting Services Report Server http://SBSSERVER/ReportServer Error: The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not found

    Again, thank you in advance

You need to configure Reporting Services first, check this

    Hi

I have read the link you gave me and I'm still not sure what to do.  I have been into Start->All Programs->Microsoft SQL Server 2008->Configuration Tools->Reporting Services Configuration Manager

From what I can see it is already started and the windows service is running as well but still get the error that I got before which I have posted above.

Is there anything that you can think of that I could check the setting of at all?

Is there anything essentially that could stop it being recognised by the CRM Install wizard?

     Thank you in advance.

Just a thought, would I need to do something with IIS first before trying to configure the reporting services?
