ReportReport

How can I setup the FRX designer security so that users cannot make changes to the report building blocks (rows, columns and trees)? I just want them to run the Catalog reports (read-only). Any help would be appreciated

By the way, we are still using FRX 6.7.

Don't give them access to Report Designer.  Just provide them access to the Report Launcher, where they can run reports, change report date ranges, etc., but not make changes to the reports themselves.

Thanks Frank.  I will try that.  Our users would always use the Report Designer to run the reports. I appreciate your assistance and sharing your knowledge.

There are two ways you could go about this.  One would be to use FRx Report Launcher.  That would let the users generate reports only.  They would not be able to create reports or make any changes to existing reports.

The other way would be to lock the row, column, tree and catalog.  You'd need to open each building block and then click the padlock icon.  This will prompt you to enter a password.  When a user opens the row, column, tree or catalog, they will be prompted to enter the password.  If they don't know it, it will open as read-only.  They could still generate the reports, but they would not be able to make changes, unless they knew the password.

Thanks you for responding.  I went with not providing them access to the Report Designer and it is working.
