Polymorphic lookup

Hi Community,

I have a requirement to implement the custom polymorphic lookup for "Users & Teams". I knew that there is a XRM toolbox tool "Polymorphic Lookup Manager".

But, am afraid to implement as it gives a notification on the top "Polymorphic Lookuos are in preview".

My question here is it recommended to implement this as we are going live in a month and what are the impacts.

Any help greatly appreciated.

the functionality is in preview, so up to you to decide to use it or not.

I personally suggest (and I repeat, this is my personal opinion) to use it, it's already available, it's something that impact very much the DB structure (so it's also difficult that will be removed and not go GA)

if you want to play 100% safe create two lookups and when the polymorphic lookups are GA then create the new column, update the old data and the associated logic

    Hi Guido Preite,

Thank you so much for the reply.

I would like more of your thoughts in  implementing polylookup.

Just found the other below article.

    vjcity.blogspot.com/.../how-to-search-in-multiple-table-from.html

Please let me know your thought, If this is the suitable way to implement.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Sravz

that post just show a video about polymorphic lookups and the web api code to create them, as you already found you can use the XrmToolBox Polymorphic Lookup Creator to create them.

Polymorphic lookups are not something new in the platform, Owner fields (User and Team) or Customer fields (Account and Contact) work in the same way.

    Thanks for the quick response.

I would like to appologize for my ignorance, its just I want to make sure the safe way to create a Polymorphic lookup. As per your post I see both ways are similar.

But, I think will go with the web api code through webapi laucher to create the lookup.
