Barcode scanning with GP

Dear reader,

We are interested in implementing barcodes & barcode scanners into our warehouse. Now was I wondering if someone has experience with implementing it.

How long does the traject normally takes, and what are estimated costs considering we need 3 scanners?

    It depends on what types of scanners and what functions do you want to put on those devices. In general, it is more about implementing and re-designing your processes. If it is just a simple USB barcode reader, then it is a very small project, as such scanners will only substitute the entering of numbers into a field manually by scanning a barcode, resulting in appearing of the numbers automatically in the active field.

    The other scale is to use Wi-Fi hand-held terminals, which will be directly connected to the database realtime and you will be able e.g. to check how many items are left overall and for which orders they are reserved by scanning a barcode, make stocktaking by walking around and scanning, making items transfer, registering spoilage, etc. Then you start to think on the labels, who will you print those, what information should it contain, should it be just a numerical sequential number or should you put some "visual logic" on how it is formed, etc. Then you need to train your stuff... Such project may take one-two month or a half year, depending on the complexity of the processes.

    Thanks for the fast reply. We are as you mentioned looking for the Wi-FI hand-held terminals, to have realtime information about the stock, see where the products are stored ect. Have you any idea what kind of cost comes with that?
