Cannot search for Contact on To: CC: or BC fields on E-mail form ( CRM 2015 on premise)

If I enter the contact number in the To. field in the Email form it is looking only for accounts. We did already some customization that if I use the option "Look up more Records" it is searching in Contacts > Contacts | All but instead of finding the contact number it shows some account records with equal number. If I search for first name and surname I got the right contact directly. Why does searching for contact numbers doesn´t work?
