Only for inventory transactions / On physical update

Hi, friends,
I don't really understand the functionality of the Only for inventory transactions and On physical update checks.
I ran some scenarios and saw that if I activate thosechecks, the batch number is generated at different times. However, whether they are active or not, the batch number is generated on hand when creating the lines in the purchase order, for example. So, i dont know what is the reason to activate them

Can someone please explain the functionality of these parameters to me?
thank you

    Hi

Well, they both serve very important function and are not same.

Scenario 1 - 'Only for inventory transactions' is checked and 'On physical update' is unchecked. In this case system will generate batch number as soon as purchase order is created. So, trigger point in creation of purchase order and its transaction. That is the point batch is assigned to entire line., See below the batch number is assigned as soon is purchase order is created,

Scenario 2 - Both 'Only for inventory transaction' and 'On physical update' are checked. Now this is the advance case where batch numbers will not be assigned as soon as purchase orders are created but when we physically update them. Meaning I want batch numbers to be assigned when we receive items against this purchase order line., This is used mostly to assign a unique batch to a lot received. E.g. In business scenario you can have a purchase order line for 100 ocs but receive on 30 Pcs 7 Nov and 70 Pcs on 11 Nov so system will assign a uniqe batch to each lot if your number group uses date as an option. See below

I want batches to be assigned when i receive items. So, i check the 'On physical update' check mark. I also want that batch number should be a combination of date and Lot id so i have checked both checkmarks.

You can see below batch number is generated only when I perform registration and the ordered line is without any batch.

So its a timing thing and depends on the business requirement,

    Thank you so much Sagar!!
Now I understand that my batch number did not change because the parameters I had activated were Reference No. and Lot ID
