Do the location types' and location profiles' names matter?

Posted on by 106

I believe that the location types and location profiles' have meanings and not just random string of words.

For example if your Location Type during Sales Order picking is ABCXYZ, your location directive will fail as D365 suggests the final S.O picking location to be either a Bay door or packing. Also, if you have unchecked the "stop work if location directive fails" for Sales orders in the WHS parameters, then work will be created with a blank location.

I have received similar error during Purch. Order receiving. When my Location Type or Loc. Profile is receiving, the work is created with a valid location but if I change the location type or loc profile to anything else, work is created with blank location (as I have unchecked the "stop work if location directive fails" box for Purch. Orders)

Is there any way to overcome this? I want to have custom names for location types, with D365 creating work with locations using that location type.

    Hi Abdul,

The Location Types ID and Location Profiles ID are user defined, so they have the meaning that the users' want them to have.

Its true that In Warehouse Management Parameters, you need to identify which Location Type define a Packing, Staging or Final Shipping location but if you want your Location Type "ABCXYZ" to be a Shipping location type you can define it as such and it will work, as long as the final put is directed to a location associated to a Location profile that is in turn associated to a Location Type that it is Final Shipping Location Type.

Your issue for work with blank location is not due to Location Types or Location Profile IDs, it is due to Location Directives not finding a location that meets the query criteria in the location directive actions.  One way to troubleshoot is to look at the Work Creation History Log and figure out why your location directives fail to return a valid location.
