Can I use PowerPivot in Excel 2010 with Dynamics CRM Online?

Dear All,

Quick question, I am trying to use PowerPivot in Excel 2010 to connect my organisation's Dynamics CRM online account...

When I try and connect using the Organization Data Service Protocol: OData (REST) -

https://[Org Name].crm4.dynamics.com/XRMServices/2011/OrganizationData.svc/

I get the following error:

"Cannot connect to the specified feed. Verify the connection and try again. Reason: For security reasons DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing set the DtdProcessing property on XmlReaderSettings to Parse and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method."

Am I mistaken in thinking that I can connect CRM Online to Excel 2010....or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Alex

    Hi Alex,

Currently, PowerPivot does NOT support connecting directly to Dynamics CRM Online.

Good news though, Power Query DOES support connecting Dynamics CRM Online and should work with Excel 2010. Once you have connected to CRM Online and brought in the data into Excel, you can then build your PowerPivots.

I know you can do it with Excel 2013 and PowerQuery.

    Here is a step-by-step:  niiranen.eu/.../connecting-crm-online-odata-feed-excel-2013-power-query

This will probably work with 2010 as well, just as Michael stated.
