Hi all we are considering upgrading 2016 CRM 8.0.1.79 to Dynamics 365 on prem 9.0 version which is only released 1 week ago.
could someone help me if we can do in place upgrade or we need to install it in a new server and import the ORG to it?
also any idea how stable 9.0 is? any unforeseen issues that may occur?
thanks in advance.

Hi Likki,
If you have the resources and the ability to migrate to a new instance, I would recommend that.
The main reason is that you never know about unforeseen issues, and migrating to a new environment would provide you with the time to check that all functionality is working.
Saying that, I am not sure what you environment is like, if you have multiple environments (dev/test/prod) and what you resource ability and expertise is.
Those things can sometimes help determine the path to take.
As Adrian said, if you have a partner, it would be a good idea to consult with them.
Good luck.
Hi Likki,
This article provides tips for Dynamics CRM 2016 to Dynamics 365 On-Premise upgrades. Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement, version 9.0 is stable, but consult with your Microsoft Dynamics partner before the upgrade if you have one. They will be able to identify any potential issues such as the presence of unsupported customisations or incompatible third-party solutions that could cause the upgrade to fail.
You can upgrade using one of the three following methods:
Migrate by using a new instance of Microsoft SQL Server
This is the safest and recommended approach. This approach requires a different computer for the new version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server and a different instance of SQL Server.
Migrate by using the same instance of SQL Server
This method requires a different computer for the new version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server but upgrades the existing configuration and default organisation database on your existing SQL Server.
In-place upgrade
This is the riskiest approach. This approach upgrades your existing CRM Server and existing configuration and default organisation database on your existing SQL Server.
