Is there a way to compile of list of items that have been received in the whse but not yet put-away?  I need to be able to see what is waiting to be put-away.

You can check for Put Away Report.

When exactly is your Put Away getting created,Automatic Posing of Receipt or from Put Away Worksheet?

Search for the Put-away List report. By default the report does a page per put-away. Depending on your version you could create a custom report layout and just show the line data.

Alternatively you could create a query or page and publish it as a web service. Once done you can create a report in excel or power bi. If you have jet reports create a report with that and use the warehouse activity line table use a filter for "Activity Type" Put-Away
