How to Change Currency Decimal Places?

For some reason the currency decimal places is grayed out and I can't figure out how to change it. I don't want to mess up our accounting department, so how do I change the currency decimal places in the item maintenance window?

Use the Adjust Decimal Places Utility under Inventory Utilities.  This will adjust decimals on transactions going forward, not on current unposted or historical transactions or POs, Sales Orders, etc.

I tried using that utility, however it would not change the decimal places. I tried it 3-4 times and nothing would happen. Any other suggestions?

That's the only game in town for changing currency decimals on an item.  When you say it wouldn't do it, what errors or other messages did you get?  Did you get an edit list after you tried?  Any messages on it?

When I press OK for the adjustment screen, nothing pops up as an error message. It lets me print an audit list, and all it says is "Item exists on Purchase Order Processing transactions and could not be updated".

Sunstone, I misled you in my earlier response.  Updating decimals DOES update all records in the system, not just future ones.  That's why you are getting the error above.  You'll need to post all open transactions that have that item on it.  If it appears on any Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, MFG Orders, Transfer Orders, etc., those documents will either need to be completed or the item removed from them before you can do the update.  Also, if the item exists on a Price List, updating the currency decimals will delete it from the Price List(s), which requires adding it back.  The update will also delete the Default Unit of Measure from the Item Purchasing Options window.

I had a different utility in mind when I wrote the earlier response (so much for relying on memory :))

I keep getting a message "You can't complete this process while transactions are being edited."

This item was just created two days ago, I have had everyone exit this system just in case that was an issue. This item has not been used on any PO, it does not exist in a Kit. Any ideas what this could be?

    Cause

You may have a user locked in a table even though all users are logged out.

    Resolution

    1. Have all users exit Microsoft Dynamics GP and execute the following query in the SQL Query Tool against the DYNAMICS database:

    delete SY00800

    2. Execute the following queries against the Tempdb database:

    delete DEX_LOCK

    delete DEX_SESSION

Hi, Will it clear the issues once we run the SQL? Coz I am also  keep getting a message "You can't complete this process while transactions are being edited." and we logged out all active users. Once we execute the queries will it clear or are we able to complete the process of changing the decimal places. Thanks
