RMS Data Management Tools

Hi all, I am looking for ideas how to best accomplish data management within RMS. I have been using RMSynergy for this function but it has me stuck at RMS V2.0.0115 until a new release of RMSynergy is released.

RMSynergy allows me to create a subset of items based on a RMS like filter and then change most any of the fields associated with that item. It also allows me to apply formulas against the customer pricing fields based on values in the MSRP or Cost fields. If the changes are significant, the subset of items can be exported to Excel, manipulated and then re-imported to RMSynergy and then committed to the RMS DBS.

I use this tool to make mass updates to categories of items when my suppliers update their pricing. I use it to mass import new items we have never carried. I use it to mass massage the Description, Extended Description, & Sub-Description fields to prepare my items for display on our web store.

RMSynery is essentially the RMS Wizard on steroids.

I believe these needs to be typical for a retailer and the need for a tool which will do these tasks cannot be unique.

I would appreciate any clues how you are accomplishing these tasks please.

Thanks,

Richard

There isn't anything within RMS that provides those data manipulation options.

You can go with a broader tool, like Sql Server Management Studio.

This will allow you to interact with the database tables directly.

Before you do anything under Management Studio BACKUP FIRST!!!

This allows you to run sql statements and edit tables directly.  There is a gotcha with this though.  You need to know what the raw data in the tables mean and how to use the Management Studio.

SysSolutions has a Data Import utility.

The beauty of the RMSynery Tool is that you dont need to know what the data means.

The RMS data tables havent changed very much in newer updates from V2.0.0115.  So you should be able to use this tool on a newer version.  Just anything that is in the newer version or the data tables wont be updated and should be set to a default value.

I suggest to give that a try on a test station and see if it works for you and go from there.

Hi Ed, yes, I'm aware there is not a tool within RMS that does these things. That is why I use RMSynergy. Unfortunately if RMS is upgraded beyond .0155 RMSynergy will no longer work as it is specific to .0155 & earlier.

Using SQL Management Studio is like using a sledge hammer where a 4 once hammer is need too. I need a tool my backoffice management can use. Working with tables and SQL script are out of the question.

    Thanks for your help,

    Richard

It looks like from previous posts that they will be updating the RMSynergy tools.

If that doesnt happen then your only option is to have someone create you a similar tool.

You can try RMS Smart tools from retailpossolutions.   Please let me know if it works out for you.   Thanks,   Manoj515@gmail.com

We did actually use RMSynergy for some later versions of RMS than they say they are certified for; it was a bit tricky getting the right combo of RMS and RMSynergy versions installed, licensed and running tho - you would definitely want to do it in a Lab setup first.

We needed to have the Landed Cost function in FP2, so we have run RMSynergy v2.1.1 with RMS v2.0.1000. Most functions seem to work, haven't tried all of them tho. Data more likely does since it doesn't rely on hooks triggered during a POS process, etc.

But it is already OK for later than the version you mentioned -RMSynergy v2.1.1 is compatible with RMS up to v2.0.0166. This was a few months ago, so there may be a newer RMSynergy update.

Otherwise you could use the Advanced Wizards in the Retail Realm utilities for updating all of the fields on the item card, either in a step-by-step process or a grid or Excel export/import method. But it doesn't add fields.

I feel that D-R is not promoting or developing the RMS add-ons as much since they are moving more towards Essentials, AX, OpSuite etc.
