MRP Supply Orders Wacky Move in/Move Out Suggestions

We've been running MRP for a while and it would appear that we're starting to get wacky Move In/Out suggestions.

For example, there are firm orders for 12-Aug, 31-Aug, 14-Sep, 30 Sep,17-Oct,etc. to 25-Mar-2011 for a component.

MRP is saying to move the 12-Aug order to 26-Mar-2011, and the move the 31-Aug to 19-Aug, and subsequent orders in to cover the shortfalls caused by moving the 12-Aug order.

Why wouldn't MRP move the 12-Aug order to 19-Aug and then move out all subsequent orders?

We are Planning "Forward Infinite" and MRP is set to not Cancel orders (only move in or move out).

Has anyone else seen this?  Any suggestions?

 Thanks

 Tim

    Tim,

Did you find an answer? We have just turned on MRP Suggestions and get similarly confusing results. It is also potentially dangerous in that MRP does not create a planned order if a move will satisfy the demand. If the move is not possible, then the planner must realize that s/he must create an order to replace it.

It would be helpful to know how MRP processing proceeds through the data, e.g. how it decides whether to create a planned order vs. a move suggestion. And for Move Out, how it decides to jump over several planned orders to a date far in the future (not practical in reality, at least for PO).

    Russ,

For now, we're just "dealing with it."  My thread here attracted no responses (except yours).  We decided not to burn an incident on it.  Our planner is (painfully) aware of the issue and accommodates as best he can.  Maybe with your reply freshening this thread will attract some other commentary.
