how to change posting date on Credit Memo?

Posted on by 1,855

Hello, I entered a credit memo and forgot to click the little blue arrow to change the posting date back to December.  The CM was not assigned to a batch, posted as a transaction.  Is there a way to change the posting date back to December before I post it to the GL?  Also, I don't see it in Master Posting under Financial.

    Hello Joe,

Victoria has the correct answer. We would recommend voiding the credit memo which will back it out of all the tables/modules correctly, and then re-enter it with the correct posting date.

If you have any questions on this please update this post.

    Thanks!

    Best regards,

    Dan Moore

To conserve the integrity between the ledger and subledger it is recommended to void the original CM at its original date and reissue the CM with the correct date. The CM number will need to be changed. You can add a . at the end to maintain the original number if this is required.

    Hope this helps

Yes, if you reconcile as of the current date, you'll be fine.  However, it sounds like something got posted in January, but should have been in December.  If that's the case, your December and yearly reconciliation will be off by the amount of the credit memo.  In January, you will 'catch up'.

But if you reconcile using a range of dates and the two dates, even tho different,  fall within that range you should still be able to reconcile no?

Great Point Victoria.  But since GP does provide the opportunity to change the posting date, how would one then reconcile the subldeger to the GL?  Thx.

If you did that (changed the date after posting in the subledger but before posting to the GL), you would have a difference when you reconciled your subledger to the GL.  Moot point now anyway, just mentioning it.  At this point, to fix this you can void the credit memo using the same dates as were used when it was posted, then re-enter it with the correct dates.

look like someone posted it all the way thru the gl.  I know if it wasn't I could go into financial series, trx entry and change the posting date before it hit the gl but now...no.   thanks anyway.
