2005 compatibility pack requirements...

I am trying to determine when  the 2005 compatibility pack is  needed? Is it needed on all workstations/POS if moving to SQL2008ExServer and workstations/POS still have SQL2005/Client or is it needed only if the workstations/POS have SQL2008Ex/Client installed.

Thank you again

It always needed.  Even with SQL2k8 installed.

One can use the SQL2k8 Native client

Thank you Jeff.  So the workstations\POS with SQL05Ex still need the pack installed if running with a 08Ex server?

I am a little confused on this. Are you saying it is needed regardless of the SQL version used?

    Thanks again.

Correct, you must have the SQL2k5 Backward Compatibility Tools installed for  2k5 and/or 2k8.
