CRM Configuration Migration tool - Migrating Teams between Dynamics 365 organizations

Has anyone had any experience with editing the exported XML from the source CRM Organization and then importing into the Target CRM Organization?

I want to migrate Teams between Dyamics365 online instances.

A workaround I used to use in the past (using a different tool) was to update the administrator ID and business unit ID (guids) in the source xml with the administrator ID and business unit IDs from the Target instance.

When I edit the XML in the data file from the export using CRM Configuration Migration tool and then save the XML and zip the file, it says "invalid import error" when I select the Zip file when trying to import into the target instance.

Is there any way I can determine why the zip file is now invalid?

Further to this, I've found that it is the process of extracting the Zip file and then zipping it again which causes the "Invalid Import file" error message.

Are there any suggestions as to how extracting and zipping the file again can cause it to become invalid?

    Hi,

I've done couple of times and never faced any issue. To unzip, I used Window's default feature - Extract all, open these files in Notepad and zip the file again using Windows's Send to - Compressed feature.

Sometimes, if you open the file other than Notepad, it usually add some extra hidden character at the end of line or end of file, which you can see using Notepad++ - Encoding feature.

    thanks.

    Thanks for your suggestion Zohaib.

I found that it was due to the re-zipping of the folder. It was creating another folder level which was causing it to be invalid when trying to import. I needed to select the files I wanted to send to the zip file rather than selecting the folder to send to the zip file. Rookie mistake!
