QPP on T4 for Canadian Payroll

Hello,

For Quebec employees, the QPP needs to be reported in Box 17.  GP does not seem to have this box.

If we add the QPP to box 16, then it shows as CPP on the T4 Summary, which we don't want as it is not a federal deduction/payment.

Has anyone encountered this?

If you have Quebec Employee you will not print the T4.  For Quebec you would print the R1 - if you print the R1 do you get the desired result?

Let me know if you need more assistance.

You actually have to print both slips for Quebec employees as federal taxes still get reports on the T4.

Ok, we just reviewed the client configuration and here is what we see

In the QPP deduction code it is marked as both a T4 - Box 16 record as well as an R1 - Box B record.

When you print the reports - as seen on client side - the T4 shows the values in the Box 17 as QPP and on Box B for the R1.

If you go to the Employee Card, have a look at the T4 button and you should see that the QPP value is populated - as well as the T4 - 16.

The testing client has been filing Quebec and Alberta employee files for the past 10 years and this configuration has not been challenged.

Thanks for the reply.  What if we manually have to enter opening values for QPP onto the T4.  If I enter them in Box 16, will they still print on Box 17 on the actual T4?

And then what about on the summary, will it add into the Box 16 value?  It's not supposed to.

Have you tried to print the T4 / R1 without making any changes to the original data?

I would suggest that before you go to that step, you print (even to blank paper) and see what you get from the system.

Before you do anything like what you have noted above, I would strongly suggest that you make a full and complete working backup of the data.

    Let me know.

The issue with this is that the employee was not entered in the system throughout the year and calculated outside so we just want to update her T4 and R1 data, but I don't the option to edit box 17.  If I do put something into her box 16 on the T4, even though she's a QC employee, it adds it to the CPP amount on the T4 summary.

It's odd that there's the option to edit some boxes on the T4 but not all.

Reason for not allow the edit for this is that the Deduction CPP / QPP are special and the system makes changes based on the setup of the employee and the marking of the Province as Quebec.

If you are trying to update as a manual function it now makes sense that you are having issues - the application can and often does things 'behind' the forms that we the end users can not control.
