Changes made to read only field will be reverted

I am exploring how to edit posted general journal. Cloud version: US Business Central 20.2 (Platform 20.0.41086.43688 + Application 20.2.41144.41547)

a) G/L Register for one transaction: After click on 'Edit List', non of the columns allow changes except Dimension Correction.

b) For the same transactions at G/L register, click edit at excel. After made changes to amount, date, descriptions, dimension etc., click Publish. Message appear 'Changes made to read only field will be reverted'. By click YES or NO, nothing updated to the transactions.

How to enable changes to posted entries. Appreciate your suggestion.

Hi Zhu, agreed that it is not recommended to destroy data integrity. Your reply highlighted it's not the end of the day. Thank you.

Your reply verify my understanding it's the behaviour of systems design.

Hi, as Francisco mentioned, in business central, You have no way to modify all the entry data after posting.

The Edit List function only lets you modify some simple data.

    For example, Description

    pastedimage1658366508082v1.png

If you're really going to do it, you'll need to customize. Add additional permission in your object like Codeunit.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/developer/properties/devenv-permissions-property

    For example,

    pastedimage1658366365500v1.png

But I want to reiterate, this is not recommended, it will destroy data integrity.

    Thanks.

    ZHU

In business central you cannot change a posted entry, for dimensions, you can use the change document dimensions but that doesnt touch the amount or gl accounts.

If you want to "correct an error", you need to revert the entry and post the correct entres again.

I the old days, you can change directly in sql, but that only brings problems when you change amonut fields.
