How to throw Business Process Error using OOB workflow in CRM V9

Hi,

I want to throw Business Process Error message to user when condition fail in OOB workflow.

I tried to using stop workflow with status "Cancelled" but not working.

How to achieve this?

    Is the workflow background, or real-time?  It can only give a message to the user if it's running real-time.

    workflow should be real time and stop your workflow with status cancelled. Real time workflow will work in transaction. you can use real time workflow or Sync Plugin for validation.

    Thanks all for your response.

    Actually I tried for Asynchronous workflow, as you said it will possible only for real time workflow achieved.
