Inventory Posting Groups

I see that only 3 inventory posting groups are given as examples for what the Inv. Posting Groups could be listed as... Retail, RM - Raw Materials, FG- Finished Goods.

Thinking ahead, what other groups are people using? Anything other than these three?

Our company primarily is domestic retail for equipment, parts and service. We do have two large customers in Guam, but no other international customers or vendors. We do not do manufacturing, but we do have two items that we assemble. We have two warehouse locations.

Should we be considering any other Inv. Posting Groups other than those listed?

I have the same question (0)

This is really something you should discuss with your accounting department.

Often only one inventory posting group is needed because there are no business need for more than one G/L account holding your inventory value. Other times there can be 10-15 inventory posting groups. It all comes down to the need of separate you inventory value to different G/L accounts.

Hi, I agree with Igne that posting group settings are generally different for each company. Depends on the company's business and financial needs.

You can set up just one, retail.
Or you can separate them according to transaction type, product category, currency, etc. and finally post them to different accounting accounts.

    Hope this helps as well.

    Thanks.
