Dialog doesn't work for Dynamics 365 online (v. 9.1) in old interface

Hello,

My customer has Dynamics 365 CRM online version 9.1 and users old interface. There is a dialog which should update custom lookup field "Holiday Replacement" on User form. It's simple dialog - user has to choose another user as holiday replacement and finish the dialog. When I run this dialog it seems to work - process session is in Completed status, there are no errors, but when I go to a specific user record for which I run the dialog, there is no change, the field hasn't been entered.

I know that dialogs are deprecated, but they still should work in old interface, right? I would be gratefull for any tip what could have gone wrong.

    Hi

I am working with few customers who have the dialogs still works fine on classic UI on V9.1.

I have  just tried what you mentioned on a trial instance as well please see below

The Custom Lookup in the screenshot below is empty as you can see from below screenshot

The dialog i created updates this lookup with value

    7206.ScreenClip-_5B00_59_5D00_.png

If I run this dialog on the User Record, please see below

    7206.ScreenClip-_5B00_56_5D00_.png

    7206.ScreenClip-_5B00_57_5D00_.png

    7206.ScreenClip-_5B00_58_5D00_.png

As you can see the dialog works fine and it updates the lookup on user record.

The version of CRM I tried the above is as shown below

    2021.ScreenClip-_5B00_61_5D00_.png

Could you please try the following?

    01. Check the Process session steps to make sure the step is executed and also make sure that step updates the value

    6283.ScreenClip-_5B00_60_5D00_.png

    02. Enable Auditing on the entity if its not already enabled and see if some other process like plugin or different plugin reverts the value back.

    03. Make sure you are on the right form and make sure the field display names are correct and you are checking the value on correct field on the form.

If the user who ran the dialog did not have permission to update user entity, the dialog would have displayed error message and the process session will have error step

If it is not working then you can replace it with Process flow or Canvas app:
