Hi,

I am familiar with a few articles regarding updating or migrating Dynamics GP, but i have a more specific question if somebody can give me a hand here!!!
We are on GP 2010 (11.00.1799). using FRX     We are planning to migrate Dynamics to a new server and update in the same time to the latest version (Dynamics 2013 with Management Reporter).

Can somebody tell me the right order and steps that we need to take? is this right?
 - Install SQL on the new server
 - Install GP 2013 on the new server
 - Export databases on the old server
 - Import them on the new server
 - Install Management Reporter and migrate reports from FRX to Management Reported....

Thanks  for your help

    - Install SQL on the new server  - SQL 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2012

    - Install GP 2013 on the new server - Check the service packs levels to make sure you have a correct path

    - Export databases on the old server - Detach DYNAMICS and all company databases

    - Import them on the new server - Attach these databases to new server

    - Install Management Reporter and migrate reports from FRX to Management Reported....

Please note, on the server go through the motions of installing GP and then stop when it comes time to create any companies. Then detach the new DYNAMICS database and dopy over yours. Make sure you clean up FRx before migration to MR.

You should read KB 878449 to get a firm grasp of what needs to be done.

I think you should move the databases over ***Before*** you install GP on the new server.

    Kind regards

    Leslie

Leslie, if you move the databases over before you install GP then the DYNAMICS database will be in the way when you run utilities. Now with GP 2013 you could always name it something else, but I move the databases afterwards. I go through all the steps with GP Utilities so it creates the DYNAMICS database, DNYGRP and other miscellaneous SQL stuff. Once GP Utiliies is done then you delete the newly created DYNAMICS database, move and attach your old DYNAMICS database and company databases and then launch utilitles. I also use the capture logins script to bring over the users.

Can you please help me with this?

We are trying to upgrade from 11.00.1799   to 12.00.1547.000 and we are getting these errors:

Product 0 does not support upgrading from version 11.0.1799.

Product 258 does not support upgrading from version 11.0.1802.

Product 309 does not support upgrading from version 11.0.1734.

Error:  Product 949 does not support upgrading from version 11.0.1803.

Looks like i need to upgrade to a newer version before migrating to 2013.

the only version that i see it available is  11.00.2248. If I upgrade to that version, will FRX reports still work fine with this version? Will i be able to upgrade to 2013 from there?

    Thanks for your help!!!

12.00.1538 is the latest release of GP 2013 and 11.00.1799 is the June 2010 Hot Fix. Perhaps you can try to go to GP 2013 RTM first and then apply the latest service pack of GP 2013.

Do you think this option will be better than upgrading the production environment to GP 2010 SP4, and then migrating?

    Thanks

I always create images of our cleint's data and do a practice upgrade. You never know what evil lurks inside these databases. I have been burned were certain service pack levels do not upgrade. Once you identify a working path then you apply it to production.

By the way, The Shadow knows what evil lurks but that is from a time gone by.
