Using letters in account segment pros & cons ?

I’d like to hear from GP users who have experience with using letters in an account segment.  I know most use strictly numbers but is there any issues in GP or FRx if letters are used?  Pros?  Con?   Thanks.

    Under Tools->Setup->Company->Account Format there is a column there for Expansion. If you read the GL manual you will find the proper setting depending on which letters you want to use. The biggest issue is that sometimes on reports you will find the letters get chopped off.

    If you are specifically asking for pros and cons, I would say it depends on whether your account framework was defined with sorting on each segment. Alphanumeric segments may create more of a performance issue with large chart of accounts than say their numeric counterparts. Other than that, I don't know that there's any pro or con between either. If you believe the studies, people tend to remember numbers much better than they do a combination of letters and numbers, which is probably why data entry for these type of accounts can be a bit cumbersome. But then again, that's just me trying to be a smart a**.
