In my store, there is 1 main item with 3 different variants (ex: 5ft,6ft,9ft), each is a different item/sku

When I tried the 'Add Items as Shopify Variants', it gave me this error

Items cannot be added as variants to a product with the "UoM as Variant" setting enabled for this store.

I watched the YouTube tutorial, but they don't have this issue. How can I enable this?

Answer: The "UoM as Variant" setting was hidden behind personalization.

    Hi,

Your Shopify shop in Business Central has “UoM as Variant” turned ON. That mode builds Shopify variants from Units of Measure on a single BC item. Since you’re trying to add separate items (5ft, 6ft, 9ft) as variants, BC blocks it and shows that message.
Fix (what you want): add separate items as Shopify variants
    1. Go to Shopify Shops in BC → open your shop.
    2. Find the UoM as Variant toggle and turn it OFF.
    3. Go back to your Shopify product in BC and run Actions → Add Items as Shopify Variants again.
    4. Sync as usual (Full or incremental).
When to keep “UoM as Variant” ON:
Only if your “variants” are truly different selling units (Each / 5-Pack / Case). That’s not your case—your 5ft/6ft/9ft are product options, not units.

    Model options that work well:
    • One BC Item + Item Variants (codes 5FT/6FT/9FT), or
    • Three separate BC Items (one per length) and add them as Shopify variants.
Both require UoM as Variant = OFF.
    Need both styles?
You can’t mix within the same shop. If you must use UoM-based variants for some products and item/variant-based for others, set up two Shopify shops in BC: one with the toggle ON, one OFF.

    Hello,

The error occurs because “UoM as Variant” is enabled on your Shopify Shop Card.
    To fix it:
Open Shopify Shops then select your shop.
Personalize the page to show UoM as Variant.
    Turn it off.
This allows you to use Add Items as Shopify Variants for syncing items as individual SKUs.

    Regards,
    Oussama
