Extracting data from email message to populate CRM

Is there a way to extract data from the body of an email message.   The message would be coming from a template that would state what type of activity, the activity type, the contacts, and the accounts.

Today contact 1 (by phone) and contact 2 (F2F) had excellent meetings with contact 3, contact 4, with account

 Next steps:

  1. task 1
  2. task 2
  3. task 3.

 For simplicity, is it possible to get the (F2F) from the body of the email and populate a specific field in CRM?

    Hi Maustin,

    Using SDK, you can read the body of an email but extracting the specific content out of it would be difficult. IF you have some static content then you could use string function like substring, split (whatevee works for you...) but if the content is not static then you may not be able to extract the correct extract.

    I have recently done something similar where emails from coming from web to CRM in a specific format (something like below) and as the format was same I was able to extract the content.

    Format

    =========

    First Name|Last Name|Email|Phone|Postcode

    Example

    =========

    Ravi|Kashyap|test@test.com|555-991|4101

    Hope this helps

    Would you be able to share the steps you did to extract the static text from the email.  I'm sure there are a lot of people that would be interested in learning  how.

    Thanks

    Hi Maustin,

    You can use the HTML Agility Pack to get information out of an email message. This information can be used it to update fields in CRM.

    You can use Zap Email Parser App, to parse the email body ...and create new activity record. In the app configuration section, you need to specify what text needs to be extracted from email and to which crm field the value needs to go.
