User's role in Business Central changed to Security role (didn't work obviously)

We're doing a post mortem on one user whose profile role changed to the security administrator.  The account obviously locked itself out since they couldn't correct after the fact.

How in the world did they do that?  (we're checking so far it does look like the user did it and no one else)

Is there any way to "fat finger" this to change your role.  In the GUI it's a whole LOT of keystrokes and clicks to change your role to something else.
I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

Every user can change his role within Settings -> My Settings and if someone knows how to, that is a few clicks.

I don't know if it is possible to use the system settings to create a list of available profiles for every user. We created a little additional setup for defining available roles for users.

Of course, all actions in the BC depend on user permissions. With one defined role, a user can navigate through Tell Me to every object, to which the user has permissions granted. So User(Role) is not playing any role when it comes to what the user can do and what the user cannot do in the BC. That is on the permission sets.
You should be sure that your permission sets give correct permissions to users so that you can't get to a situation where you think that your user can access objects that he is not supposed to.
On the links below you can find more about Profile(Roles) and Permissions.

    Greetings

As Mustafa mentioned, all users can modify their own Role, just a few clicks.

If you want to restrict this behavior, hopefully the following information can give you some tips.

    Thanks

user profile doesn't give user permission to do things in BC. What controls what users can do is permission sets. Here is some additional info for your reference
