Sample Giveaway Items

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to handle a scenario in Business Central where we give away items as samples to customers. These items must be posted through a sales document, but the customer should not be charged anything. At the same time, VAT on the sales price must still be calculated and posted.

The desired posting entries should look like this:

Inventory Account – CR (at cost)
Sample Expense Account – DR (at cost)
Sales VAT Account – CR (based on sales price × VAT%)
Sample Expense Account – DR (based on sales price × VAT%)

There should be no Accounts Receivable, no revenue recognition, and no sales amount, just VAT and the cost reclassification.
I tested using a 100% line discount, but since the sales amount becomes zero, BC does not calculate VAT , which we are required to post.
I have also tested with using Item Charge with negative amount. but it gives this error "The transaction cannot be completed because it will cause inconsistencies in the G/L Entry table" due to CONSISTENT function usage.

Has anyone implemented a similar scenario in BC? Is there a standard way or recommended setup to achieve this? Any guidance or best practices would be appreciated.
