Why to upgrade on GP 2013 from GP 2010

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

We are using a GP 2010 from couple of years. Now as GP 2013 is also in the Market, we want to upgrade our self to 2013 version.

So what advantage will be getting on upgrading the GP 2010 to GP 2013.

Also how to perform a data migration ?

    Sandip,

No issue about your SQL server and current GP data. While upgrading your GP, we need to move your current SQL server to new SQL server which is supporting for GP 2013 with help of below Microsoft KB article.

So,  this won't affect your financial data. Better you can contact GP partners from your region and start upgradation.

    Hope this helps!!!

Thanks Somakarpagamoorthy K for your help.

We are using MS SQL 2005 as a backend for GP 2010. I believe the prerequisite for GP 2013 for backend is MS SQL 2008.

So will there be any issue  for migration of data ?

    Thanks

RE: Why to upgrade on GP 2013 from GP 2010

There many reason may cause for our Dynamics GP upgradation.

Dynamics GP 2013 has more new features comparing to earlier versions. So, if you want to use these features, you need to upgarate your current Dynamics GP to latest GP 2013 R2.

For your reference, have a look on the below links.

    https://community.dynamics.com/gp/b/erpsoftwareblog/archive/2012/10/18/what-s-new-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp-2013-descriptions-of-60-new-features.aspx

Each of the Dynamics GP products support will be ended based on the product release. So, if you wants extends the Microsoft product support for your GP versions, you need to upgrade your current GP version to GP 2013 R2(R2 has some addition features comparing to 2013 SP1 & SP2).

For your reference, have a look on the Dynamics GP support life cycle from below link.

No need to worry about your current data. Because, if you upgrade the current GP, it won't affect your financial data. The same data will be available from your new GP.

    Hope this help!!!
