Exporting Advanced Find to Excel

Hi all,

Newer at administering CRM, need some guidance as to how to trouble shoot the generic error I receive (Says An error has occurred. Try this action again. If the problem continues, check the Microsoft dynamics crm Community for solutions or contact your organizations ms dynamics admin or contact ms support).

Its trying to export to a dynamic worksheet more than 5,000 records, it will run for a bit and then throw the error out. I've tried other browsers, wondering if it's a browser error, though the download log file icon is grayed out so i can't see what CRM has to say.

thanks for any info! have a great day!

Hi Braddock, There is usually a 5000-100000 limit for exports to preserve crm performance, however you can ammend this in the registry. But I would check your error / event logs to find out why yours Is failing?

    Best Wishes, Raz

    Braddock,

You might try using the CRM diagnostic tool to try to get a more specific error message.  It can be downloaded here: https://crmdiagtool2011.codeplex.com/  You will want to install this on your CRM server.

Try running the tool and clicking Enable Trace.  Run your export until error occurs.  Then Disable Trace (this is important because the trace data is voluminous; you can consume a lot of storage if you leave it on all the time).

Next click Open Trace directory.  There will be several trace files, there will be some degree of trial and error finding which trace file contains your error, but once you find it, it may contain a more descriptive and useful error message.  Post that error message here when/if you find it.
