Display custom icons instead of values in list views

Hello,

I found and article which describes how to do that at the following link.

This article says that it applies to the following versions of CRM :

Applies To: Dynamics 365 (online), Dynamics 365 (on-premises), Dynamics CRM 2016, Dynamics CRM Online

But I tried to implement this with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online 2016 Update 1 and it does not seem to apply to this specific version.

Does anyone can confirm that this strategy is applicable to this version ?

My need is exactly what is described in the article. Be able to display custom icons instead of values in list views.

If not applicable, does anyone could suggest me a solution to suit my need ?

Thanks very much in advance,

Emmanuel Barache

Hi Emmanuel, thanks for reaching out.

Where are you running into trouble with this? Do you not have the options available when you edit a column on a system view?

    Hi Emmanuel,

that feature is only available for Dynamics 365 (online and onpremise), not for previous versions

    Hi Tom,

No particular options except for column width are visible on the column property dialog of a system view within the version I use.

    Hi Guido,

    Thanks for the feedback.

So you confirm that Microsoft documentation is giving a wrong information regarding the versions on which the technet article I exposed is supposed to apply.

This is bad because we sold this feature to some of our customers based on this information.

    Hi Emmanuel,

This is a new feature in Dynamics 365 (8.2).  It is a bit misleading when on the top of the article it says the article Applied To Dynamics CRM 2016.  But in the specific section "Display custom icons instead of values in list views" it specifically says "Add custom graphics and JavaScript as web resources in Dynamics 365".

    Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for your contribution.

I was also asking in my initial post (in case of not applicable to sp1) if there was a solution to suit my needs and replicate 8.2 feature in 8.1, including some custom dev eventually or using an external ISV solution ?

    Thanks for your feedback,

    Best regards,

    Hi Emmanuel,

There's no supported way to do this.  But check out below site.  This add-on changes colours and style of grid rows.  I have never used it but you could give it a try.

This is for people referring this link in future :)

"Tool tip" is mandatory for displaying the icons. Make sure you add tool tip for the icons to be displayed in the view. Else the icons will not be displayed.

Is it possible to access data of columns from related entities and add logic on values from related entity?

This is just a webresource method on any particular column in grid to swap the text (for ex picklist) with cool icons for extra cosmetics. If the related record attribute is in that view then rowdata can be massaged to display based on that.

This is somewhat similar to SharePoint extension - Field customizer.
