Planned order cost calculation

Has anyone used this periodic function and what exactly does it do?
I want to start using it in production environment but I want to know the full logic behind it.
My understanding is that it will only populate cost prices to the planned orders.
It looks like only impact is that and no other.

Thanks in advance.
I have the same question (0)

    Good day,

In Dynamics 365 SCM, Planned cost is a costing type used within a costing version to simulate or forecast item costs before they are finalized or activated. This is particularly useful for:
    • Cost simulations (e.g., analyzing the impact of material or labor cost changes)
    • Forecasting production costs
    • Supporting actual cost inventory models by providing initial cost values

    Good day Laurens,

Thank you, however I was referring to Master planning > Setup > Planned order cost calculation.

The real use of this function is to update the cost for planned order. Here is the article where real-problem is discussed and after running this batch "Planned Order Cost Calculation" it got resolved.

Solved: Master Planning - cost amount field, why it is showing sometimes and not showing sometimes

    Hi NSPhoenix123

Yes, that is the only impact. On that other post, Dolores writes that it uses the cost price from the Item's Manage costs fast tab, and I guess she'd know, since she works for MSFT!

I did some testing anyway. As far as I can tell, it always uses the data on the Manage costs fast tab from the Released product details screen. For example, on Planned purchase orders, it doesn't use a Vendor trade agreement price, and it doesn't pay any attention that an item might have a different cost price at different Sites.

Once it has found the cost price, it multiplies it by the Requirement quantity on the planned order to calculate the Cost amount for the planned order.

By default, when you run Planned order cost calculation, it ignores Planned orders which already have a Cost amount, but you can force it to update those by removing the Filter before you run it.
