CRM Fields/Entity Question

Hey everyone,

I'm new to configuring the CRM software.

Currently, I'm setting up multiple entities that will have a relationship with the account entity. Many of these entities need to have address information on them (e.g. the account will be connected to insurance and distributors, insurance and distributors will both have address fields). Will creating new address fields for each of these entities (insurance and distributors) cause any problems when importing data... they essentially have the same schema name of new_address1 for example. Or are they separate in the database because the entity that contains them?

Hopefully I explained that well - thanks!

    Hi,

You might consider using account records with a custom 'type' fields to represent distributors and other 'company' type records - you can then create relationships between the account-account for the different roles.

You might also consider your connection roles - msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg328007.aspx

But if you did want to have them as custom entities  - you certainly can create custom address fields and then import into those custom fields with no problem.

    Hope this answers your question.

Even if schema name for address field is same for two or more related entities they are separately stored in the database because the entity that contains them are different.

Please note With the Import Data Wizard, you can specify the “Map Automatically” option. The wizard automatically maps all the files and the column headings with Microsoft Dynamics CRM record types and fields if:

    • The file names exactly match the display name of the record type.

    • The column headings of the file you are importing exactly match the display names of the fields in the record.

Hence in your case you will not get any issue while importing data even though schema name for address field is same for two or more related entities.

Hope this would have solved your query.

    Thanks,

    Sam
